This Blog is about building model fishing ships and everything what has to do with it. Most builds are done by me but when not I will mention.
I hope you will have fun reading and watching my blog and if you like please leave a comment.

Working on the aft deck (2)

Today a dryfit for the parts. I finished the railings and some other details. Now I start with the deck and the front of the ship. Nothing is fit yet and some parts need some finishing.

Working on the aft deck

I went a litlle further with the structure of the back of the ship. It was more work than I expected because i want to make the structure removable because of the electric wiring for the numerous leds in the model.

No more talking... here are the provisional results (times three but I only show one)

Now on with all the details.

Update on the sumwings (2)

The sumwings are finished but not yet complete. That comes when I give them their final positions.

Update on the sumwings

Some progress on the sumwings, It's not an easy shape to make but I am satisfied with the wings I have now. After this I start adding the details (which are many) And then I want to figure out to find a way to make the fishingnets. (I eat lots and lots of garlic these weeks. Maybe next time I tell You why)

Sumwings

I started to build up the back of the ship but when i was looking at the photo's I realized I have not build yet the most important piece of the ship. Its called the sumwing and it is a Dutch invention to drag the nets over the seabed with less agitation off the bottom and less fuelconsumption. The sumwing 'flies' over the seabed draging the nets forward. The pulswires attached to the the sumwing and the nets give electric pulses which makes the fish jump up in the nets.

On  http://www.sumwing.nl   You can find more images and some video about the sumwing.

Next update I hope to show you my finished model sumwings

Kind regards, Kees

last update on the mast

One of the last things to build on this ship are the portals on the back of the ship. This portal is placed a few years after the ship was build. First there was a crane and a rubberboat

The portal is used for the two puleys that guides the pulswires to the nets

Here the placing of the portal

And how it looks now

No drawings so I had to use photo's for measuring the right dimensions and proportions

Pulswinch and another block again

Hello to You all.

Today two parts I finished.

At first the block which is used to haul in the sumwing. Sumwing is the wing on which the net is attached. It flies over the bottom. In this block there is a big pully which I made on the lathe because it is very vissible.

Example

And how I made them. The coin is 1 inch in diameter

And I made the pulswinch. The ship works with pulsfishery (most Dutch beamtrawlers do). It means that the nets fly over the bottom and instead of chains (that goes trough the bottom) there are electrodes whitch give short electric pulses. The fish are disturbed and 'jumps' into the nets. The electrical current comes from a cables whitch is reeled in on the pulsewinch (2 on each ship)

And how I made them. They are very little (18mm) so I had to compromise a little, some times.

And a little bit off topic but I think it is fun to show you. This ship is made/finished by my father last week. It is in scale 1/100 and 43 cm long. The ship is the 'old' KW88 Pelikaan. I made a few trips on the trawler when I was a boy. My father has always been an example to me when it comes to shipbuilding so I am happy he has build this ship.

making some blocks (How do I do it)

I made some blocks again, 12 this time. They are blocks with 3 rollers. Here a few pictures of how I worked.

The results.

Some more blocks

Building more blocks. These single blocks look very simpel but I wanted them to look realistic ans made some work on them. I made 3x8=24 blocks (25 actually but there is a parts-eating monster somewhere in my hobbyroom.)

An example of the blocks. But there are very much different types and over the years the blocks changed.

Intermodellbau Dortmund 2016 (slideshow)

Yesterday I went to the modelshow in Dortmund. It was very nice to
see all the builds of fellow modelmakers. I have seen very much and
offcource spend to much money but it was the long trip (4 hours) wel
worth.

Here is a slideshow of my photo's that day

Jumperblocks

Hello folks

I started to make some rigging for the model because there are a lot of blocks on this ship. The first ones to build are the jumperblocks. These are used to lift parts of the nets. Their shapes makes it possible to lift the nets, chains shackles, hooks and other stuff without damage.

A very bad picture of the originals
Posted Image

The housings cut out of thin brass sheet.
Posted Image

And then the rolls. I made these on my small lathe. First I formed a toolbit/chisel and then I made the form
Posted Image

A little video of turning the rolls on my lathe

And the results

It is now one year ago that I recieved the drawings for this model and soon after that I started building. It all takes some more time than I planned but the results are more important to me.

No building activity tommorrow  because I hope to visit the Intermodellbau in Dortmund.

Kind regards Kees

Intermodellbau Dortmund 2015

One year ago, the Intermodellbau in Dortmund Germany. Fryday I hope to go to Dortmund again and hopefully I can make a video too.

Enjoy watching my blog and this video.

Frontmast (3)

Some progress just because I am proud of it. I made the trawl-beams and glued them to the mast.

The most work is in installing the ridiculously small led's On every mast are just 5 led's but it was a total nightmare to place them and their wiring. But it works.  I hope to make a small vid for you later.
